One of the earliest fashion fads to focus on was the short-lived Zoot Suit of the 1940's, but that time period also saw the emergence of Tattoos, which would move up and down in popularity, but have remained a fashion statement for more than 60 years.
The 1950's saw the coming of the sugary sweet Poodle Skirts as well as the birth of the Bouffant Hairdo that would become popularized by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. The 1960's gave us the sexy and sassy Miniskirt as well as the laid back, flower power Tie-Dye T-shirt, but nothing could compare to the 1970's.
The Seventies saw the appearance of fashion fads that would overwhelm and transform the wardrobes of seemingly everyone on Earth. The hugely popular polyester Bellbottom Pants and Leisure Suit and Platform Shoes went from fashion dreams to fashion nightmares almost overnight, only to make comebacks during the 1990's.
Fashion fads have come and gone (and come and gone again), but they have provided praise and embarrassment for people that will last a lifetime.
